Abstract

Irish society has changed in recent years in ways that have been propitious to the development of freedom of information (FOI) legislation. These changes are outlined here as a prelude to describing the development of FOI in Ireland and indicating the main features of the new legislation. As this chapter aims to record a recent period of administrative activity and legislative innovation, it concludes with some reflections on the process of developing FOI at the centre of government.
