Do not go gentle…

  • Chapter
Nurse Prescribing

Abstract

Dylan Thomas wrote a poem that begs one not meekly to accept death but to rage ‘against the dying of the light’ (Thomas 1987). Nurses, it seems, have to ‘rage’ in order to develop their role. Green indicates (Chapter 1) that nurse prescribing is not a new idea, having been mooted some 14 years before the first demonstration sites were announced. The demonstration was running for some 4 years prior to being rolled out to the district nursing and health visitor branches of community nursing. The exclusion of other community nurses makes a significant contribution to the secularisation of nursing.
