Abstract

At the time of writing (May 1997) Oracle has announced that version 8 is due to be released shortly. Oracle has provided few details of version 8 but has announced that it will be Object-Relational and follow as closely as possible the forthcoming SQL3 standard. The standard was due to be released in 1996 but it is still not finalised. Consequently, there may be differences between Oracle8 and SQL3, but as Oracle is an important voice on the SQL3 committee one would not expect differences to be very great.
