Abstract

In this chapter we cover topics concerning the physical organisation of an Oracle database. Indexes and clusters are an important means of improving retrieval operations on a database. In the section on storage structures we see how Oracle stores data on the disk (or other physical device). We will see however that a trade-off between effective storage utilisation and processing speed has to be made,. and like much of Oracle this area is tuneable.
