Abstract
Family law changes rapidly. In the last 10 years there have been important developments, particularly in the area of child law. The Family Law Reform Act 1987 reformed most of the law affecting the children of unmarried couples and the Children Act 1989, which came into force in 1991, made fundamental and far-reaching changes to most of the civil law relating to children. In April 1993 a new system of child support was introduced by the Child Support Act 1991 removing child maintenance from the courts into the Child Support Agency.
