Summary
This paper describes the design and development process of a computer integrated manufacturing cell in the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory at the University of Auckland. The cell consists of an o-shaped conveyor system, a CNC machine tool, and two industrial robots that are used for materials handling. The conveyor system was designed from individual standardised elements in order to create a structure that was modular and flexible with respect of future extensions or layout changes.
