Abstract

This chapter presents the research findings within the context of the objectives outlined at the beginning of this book. Specific objectives which this chapter addresses include: the identification of coastal defense navies as a unique type of naval force distinguishable from the other four types of navies; the identification of general characteristics which are common to coastal defense navies as a group; the establishment of a coastal defense navy hierarchy to facilitate the examination of differences among these navies; and the identification of similarities and differences among coastal defense navies on the basis of regional comparisons.
