Introduction to the Second Edition
In the 10 years since the publication of the first edition, the opening question ‘Why write a book on women and social work?’ requires a new answer. Social work and social care have given explicit recognition of the two genders, women and men, in practice and provision. Some progress in raising awareness of the gendered world we all inhabit has been made. Why then does it remain necessary to focus on women as service users and as workers, and what, given all the changes in the circumstances of women’s lives, has stayed the same?
