Abstract

I once heard a story of a lady who went to see Othello and found it so painful that she got up and shouted: ‘you stupid fool, can’t you see he’s having you on!’ This reaction is entirely understandable:

  • Othello is the most painful tragedy to watch.

The audience is in the uncomfortable position of feeling that it’s being poisoned.
