Abstract
Entering the second stage of labour can be an almost overwhelming experience for a labouring woman. Some find it liberating and exciting — at last the end of labour is coming, they can push, something is happening; for others, it is the hardest part of labour, when they can become demoralised, feeling they can’t go on, even believing they are going to die (Halldorsdóttir & Karlsdóttir 1996).
