Abstract
Children’s first lessons about Sikhism are taught at home. Guru Nanak and the gurus that followed called upon parents to pass on the beliefs and practices of Sikhism to their children. Guru Gobind Singh said that parents should educate children in the faith and baptise them. This would give society a moral foundation and ennoble people’s lives. Education begins by learning the name for God (Waheguru) and the first hymn of the Adi Granth.
