Abstract
Having written and agreed a philosophy and objectives as described in Chapter 1, the next step in the quality cycle is to describe the clinical care, or what we do, in measurable terms. Following this, to identify standards and criteria in order to establish the quality of patient care. It is not possible to measure the quality of care unless it has been accurately described in measurable terms. One of the ways to do this is by setting standards.
