Abstract

Never has the private lives of our political leaders been such a topical subject. At the time of writing, the sexual escapades of an American president, the mayor of New York City, and the British foreign secretary are all being publicly scrutinized. Bill Clinton, in particular, has been forced to deal with damning revelations for a considerable period, beginning in 1992 when Gennifer Flowers came forward just before the New Hampshire primary as the Arkansas governor’s longtime lover.
