Counselling has become a fashionable, multifaceted profession and patients have access to counselling for any one of a number of different problems: HIV counselling, abortion counselling, cancer counselling, counselling for post-traumatic stress syndrome, to name but a few. Along with these specialist services, counselling in primary care has now become an accepted and valued discipline, with counsellors employed in practices in many different parts of the country.
