Abstract
‘Personnel management’ is that part of management concerned with the man-agement of people at work. However, like many things in life, reality is more complex: for example, in recent years the term ‘human resource management’ has frequently been used in preference to ‘personnel management’. In this introduction we shall examine this change together with some other initial definitions.
