Abstract
Textbooks are excellent vehicles for presenting theory and general principles, but they presuppose that the reader will be able to apply this knowledge to specific situations after studying only the smallest amount of example material. This leaves a large gap between stated knowledge and the techniques needed for success in the world of application and to satisfy the typical expectations of the lower-level line manager. The budding operations manager/engineer is left in the middle of this void and needs help.
