Abstract
Ecology is the study of organisms in their natural environment. It includes ideas about the number of organisms, how they are distributed and how different organisms affect one another. Such a study is important in making judgements about how best to protect the natural environment and also in managing ecosystems. For example, it could help to maximize food production in agriculture or fish farming.
