Abstract

Arab and Israeli efforts to augment their military power in 1948 were hampered by three sets and stages of embargo: first, the American embargo of December 1947, then the British embargo (imposed by degrees from February 1948) and, finally, a universal embargo, imposed by the Security Council on 29 May 1948, into which the former two embargo policies amalgamated, and which together held until the autumn of 1949.
