Abstract
The family is the most important social group in our society. Very few people do not spend at least part of their lives living as a member of a family. Although there is a tendency to regard family life as a very private area, it is a subject of concern, both to academic writers and to policy-makers. The reason for this interest is that the family plays a key role in society.
