Abstract

Slovenia proclaimed independence on 26 June 1991, after a decade of tense and uncertain political and economic developments. Three months later, on 8 October 1991, the tiny but relatively affluent nation of two million people became fully “independent”. In the beginning of 1992, Slovenia was recognised as an independent state by the EC member states and, in May 1992, became a member of the UN.

Professor of Economics, EIPF (Institute of Economics, Faculty of Law), University of Ljubljana Slovenia.
