The Dimensions of Elder Abuse

Abstract

The previous three chapters have aimed to provide an overview and general framework concerning elder abuse. For the reader in this chapter, the various threads that constitute a medical perspective are woven together. These include some points around demography, the current medical knowledge base, and issues concerning ageing as well as formal elder abuse protocols. The chapter explores the core of professional education, the role of the medical model (continuing medical education) and changes occurring at undergraduate education level.
