Gender, Technology and Flexibility in the UK Mail Order Industry

  • Chapter
Book cover Fordism and Flexibility

Part of the book series: Explorations in Sociology ((EIS))

Abstract

This chapter’s purpose is to contribute to the body of empirical evidence by which the tenets of post-Fordism and flexible specialisation may be judged. This evidence, coming not from manufacturing but from the distribution sector, does not disprove these tenets in general. However, it provides an example of an industry to which they apply only partially.
