Abstract

In this first chapter, an attempt is made to provide the reader with a rough, but adequate, understanding of the term ‘ethics’. Three ways of employing the term are identified. Following this, the question of why nurses should study ethics at all is addressed. In the final section of the chapter, a strategy to aid the identification of moral issues in nursing is attempted.
