Abstract
Urban poverty in Korea differs from that in most other developing nations. It is less the result of rural underdevelopment and economic stagnation than a byproduct of rapid urbanisation and industrial growth. Overall, poverty in Korea has been greatly reduced and, even in the cities, the poor are a minority. Yet, the management of urban services for the poor is a complex issue in Korean society.
