Thought Disorder in Schizophrenia: Corrective Influence of Nursing Behavior on Language of Patients

  • Chapter
Hildegard E. Peplau, Selected Works

Abstract

The language behavior of the schizophrenic patient reflects, and unless disrupted, perpetuates and worsens the thought disorder connected with this form of mental illness. Moreover, the language behavior of the nursing staff, in nurse-patient relationships, tends toward correction or reinforcement of such thought disorders. In this paper, these two ideas will be amplified and discussed.
