Abstract

Today there are very few designs that do not incorporate a number of standard components. This applies to almost everything we meet in everyday life — the light-fitting overhead, the bicycle we ride, or the car we drive. All these contain a large number of standard components. Perhaps the only exception might be the free plastic toy that leapt from the cornflake packet at breakfast time!
