Abstract

Bloomsbury wrote about Cambridge throughout their literary careers. Two of Forster’s novels, The Longest Journey and Maurice, are centrally concerned with Cambridge, and the fragment ‘Arctic Summer’ sensationally ends there. Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson is a Cambridge biography, while a number of Forster’s essays and memoirs return to Cambridge subjects and friends. In Virginia Woolf’s work, some of the most expressive rooms in Jacob’s Room, A Room of One’s Own, The Waves and Roger Fry are Cambridge rooms. Keynes’s Essays in Biography includes several Cambridge lives. Four of the subjects in Strachey’s Portraits in Miniature are of Cambridge men.
