Abstract

In this chapter, noise will be defined and its types and sources identified. In addition, such terms as signal-to-noise ratio, noise factor (figure), noise temperature, etc. will be explained and evaluated. Particular attention will be paid to noise generated in electronic components, for example passive components such as resistors, and active components such as transistors and operational amplifiers. Electronic or electrical noise may be defined as any unwanted signal which is present in an electrical or electronic system. This unwanted signal is called interference.
