Abstract

Change is never easy. Changing time-honoured ways of providing care for distressed people is likely to be particularly threatening for doctors and nurses. People in health care like to think they are doing the best they can for their patients. Admitting the need for change is saying ‘I could do better’. It can also feel like saying ‘I’ve been getting it wrong’.
