Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to bring together the facts relating to banking qualifications, not only the range of professional qualifications of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), but also the new National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) which are designed to meet the needs of those who wish to be assessed for their practical competence in the bank rather than for their academic knowledge. It is likely that the majority of readers of this book will be studying for Business of Banking for the Banking Certificate, and they should therefore be aware of the structure of the CIB examinations; however, it may prove useful to have them summarised here. But for the more general reader it is to be hoped that drawing his or her attention to the qualifications as well as to what banking is all about, may encourage him, or her, to seek employment in banking and to endeavour to become qualified.
