Abstract
A long, varied and thought-provoking journey through radically different attempts at innovation in different contexts has now reached completion. The introduction of this book argues that its main value lies in the experience of travelling through the case studies, rather than arriving at a set of neat conclusions. It should be clear by now that there are no ‘quick fixes’ to many of the problems that arise in the process of innovation. But that is not the same as saying that these are no more than idiosyncratic accounts bound completely to their context. To admit that is to deny the possibilities of planned change, and accept impotence in the face of growing needs.
