Abstract

The Soviet Union at the beginning of the Khrushchev period was an industrial giant and a world superpower. Moreover, the economy continued to expand while Khrushchev was in power, so that in 1964, when he was ousted from office, its major industries were far more developed and modern than at the time of Stalin’s death. Table 6.1 shows how major industries fared.
