Caring for Older People

Abstract

Common health problems affecting the endocrine system may occur from a disturbance in the secretion of hormones. A deficiency in a specific hormone usually results from destruction of the gland, cancer, infection, or from inadequate stimulation. An excess is usually due to tumour, hyperplasia, or hypertrophy. The purpose of this chapter is to provide the nurse with potential nursing diagnoses and appropriate nursing interventions for patients or clients who are experiencing health problems of the endocrine system.
