Abstract
Every information system depends to some extent on data communications. Any process which forwards data from place to place is a form of data communications; this process may include such varying means as postal services or wired connections between parts of a central processor and its peripherals. It is, however, the exploitation of telecommunications facilities for transmitting data which is the normal meaning of the term ‘data communications’ today.
