Abstract

The major English-speaking countries of the old Commonwealth that have governments patterned on the British model have shown some reluctance to adopt European-style data protection legislation in its entirety. In the case of Canada and Australia, there is no requirement for registration of personal data systems with the respective Privacy Commissioners. Moreover, the Canadian provision does not cover the private sector.

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy.
