Abstract

Thermodynamics is concerned with the interactions that take place across the boundary between a system and its surroundings and the consequent changes in the state of the system. These interactions are best specified in terms of the energy transfer that occurs across the boundary. One type of interaction is the work interaction, and this will be considered in this chapter.
