Abstract

‘End-effector’ is the name given to the gripper or ‘pick-up’ that holds the component being processed. Most robot applications involve only the manipulation of a component between the machines that do the processing. Sometimes it carries a tool instead, to work directly on a component — for example, in drilling, welding or paint spraying. Sometimes a multi-purpose end-effector can be used; this will handle either a component or a tool.
