Abstract

For reasons of public policy, defendants engaged in certain activities may be immune from negligence liability. The following paragraphs consider the immunities of governmental agencies, the police and the legal profession. This is not a complete list of those with immunities from suit: others have been, or may yet be, added to the list. It has been decided for instance, as the authors are pleased to note, that the examiners of the University of London LLB cannot successfully be sued by candidates who allege that their scripts were marked negligently (Thorne v. University of London [1966] 2 QB 237).
