Abstract

In looking back at the International Decade for Women, one may wonder whether the International Women’s Movement had reasons for celebration in 1985. Whatever may have been achieved or not achieved, one thing is certain: more reflection is necessary on basic theoretical premises and on the interaction between theory and practice of the movement in various parts of the world.

This is a slightly revised version of Chapter 7, ‘Towards a Feminist Perspective of a New Society’, in Maria Mies (1986) Patriarchy and Accumulation on a World Scale. Women in the International Division of Labour, Zed Books, London, pp. 203–35.
