Respiratory emergencies and supplementary surfactant in the treatment of severe RDS in leukaemic adolescents

  • Chapter

Abstract

Acute respiratory insufficiency in leukaemic adolescents and in adolescents subjected to bone marrow transplant is generally attributed to infective processes developing in the agranulocytosis state [1–3]. The most typical pulmonary situations in these cases of respiratory insufficiency are interstitial pneumonia and pulmonary infiltrates of various origins, which appear with the maximum immunodepression and/or when the systemic disease is in the stage of greater invasiveness. The onset of a respiratory pathology has an extremely negative effect on the evolution and prognosis of these patients.
