Abstract
In this chapter the debate is about the future of Communism. Zbignew Brzezinski, Director of the National Security Council in the Carter administration and currently a member of President Bush’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, has made a strong case for the failure of Communism in his book The Grand Failure (TGF), completed in August 1988 and published in 1989. Zinoviev has responded with a book entitled Konets kommunizma? (The End of Communism?), published in 1990 in Italian under the title Il superpotere in URSS: il communismo è veramente tramontato? (Superpower in the USSR: Has the Sun Really Set over Communism?) (henceforth IS). The question mark in the title of Zinoviev’s book is rhetorical rather than interrogatory.1
