The Construction Process

  • Chapter
Structural Detailing

Abstract

In the beginning there is a client, the person or group that wants a building erected and who will pay the total cost of that building. The client usually knows in broad terms what he wants — a factory or warehouse, a block of offices or flats, a school or hospital, of a certain size. He may often have ideas about its shape and appearance and what form of construction should be used. Planning controls and environmental considerations will also be factors.
