Summary

A system for automatic inspection of planarity and possible defects (i.e. protuberances) of surfaces has been studied. As an application, the quality control of ceramic tiles is considered. Two laser beams of appropriate (rectangular) section are used to inspect the surface and the information is processed by a single PC 80286. Advantages and disadvantages with respect to other common techniques are discussed.
