Summary

Machining error distributions in end milling have been analyzed quantitatively based on statistical methodology. In this unique statistical methodology, it is assumed that the machining error distribution consists of two normal distributions which have different standard deviations. The best distribution (i.e. that which fits the machining error distribution closest) can be calculated, and the standard deviations of two normal distributions which form this best distribution are determined. One of the standard deviations remains almost constant even for different machining centers or tool holders, although the other changes considerably. The steady standard deviation which remain almost constant is then used to evaluate machining error distribution.
