Abstract

From the very beginning Jerzy Andrzejewski (1909–83) was acclaimed as a disciple of Joseph Conrad. He had other mentors as well, both Polish and foreign, but it seems Conrad had a lasting influence on his views on life and morality. For Andrzejewski’s moral bias remained, in a sense unchanged; even whilst his narrative craft underwent fundamental transformations, his inheritance of Conrad’s chief dilemmas weathered all storms, including the postwar impact of Marxism.
