Abstract
Among the agencies of change that might be expected gradually to erode the isolation of the Chilca peasantry, undermine their distinctive culture and lead ultimately to their integration into the national society, we can identify the spread of communications and roads, the impact of the press, literacy and schooling, the place of the army, the role of Cuzco and rural-urban migration. This chapter discusses the effects of these factors.
