Abstract
The 1980s were a decade of extraordinary market changes and were characterised by financial and political volatility. One of the features of this era was the unprecedented change in international corporate finance, as a result of economic policies of governments in the OECD area, which manifested itself in the development of global markets in finance and trade. A feature of these changes was the development within multinational corporations of entire departments to manage their financial risks in terms of foreign exchange and interest rate exposures, commodities trading and insurance.
