Abstract

The objectives of this chapter are that upon completion the reader will:

  • realize the significance of facial injuries relative to injuries of the head and neck;

  • appreciate that the vascular supply is bountiful in soft-tissue structures of the face and scalp but poor in structures of the outer ears, and that a different approach must be taken in evaluating and tending wounds in these areas;

  • be able to list life-threatening complications that may occur with facial injuries;

  • be able to describe principles of dressing application appropriate for facial, eye, nose and ear injuries.
