Abstract
The objectives of this chapter are to teach members of the trauma team:
-
relevant anatomy of the chest wall and thoracic contents;
-
basic physiology of ventilation, diffusion and perfusion;
-
recognition and primary treatment of six immediately life-threatening thoracic conditions;
-
recognition and primary treatment of six potentially life-threatening thoracic conditions;
-
recognition and primary treatment of neck wounds;
-
principles of definitive thoracic trauma care.
