Abstract
When the advertisement is placed, you will not know whether or not you will need to shortlist. It is wise to plan for it, and to identify your selection panel as the best people to do it. You will, at the very least, find a second opinion helpful, and despite the current general management ethos, you may want to encourage corporate ownership of the decision. If you go solo and show bias, you may be called to task for flouting equal opportunity policies, or upsetting the consultant whose support is vital.
Study the past if you would divine the future.
